Kanye's 'Power' Video is 'Apacolyptic in a Personal Way'

Kanye West's new music video for his single "Power" premiered Thursday night on MTV and caused lots of commotion. The video was inspired by an installation by video artist and film director Marco Brambilla entitled "Civilization."

Brambilla describes the video - which consist of one continuous shot that zooms out until the end - as 'apocalyptic', reports the NY Times. In the 90 second clip West is portrayed as a fallen king on the verge of execution while half-nude and even nude people bow at his feet.

Brambilla admitted that he wasn't too keen on working with any sort of music artist. However, upon witnessing the enthusiasm and understanding West possessed towards his work he couldn't resist. According to Brambilla, the video is an attempt at answering the question, "How do you visually paint a portrait of power?"

The visual style was influenced by Michaelangelo's frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and Philippe Halsman’s portrait "Dali Atomicus."

I applaud Kanye West with being an artist who continually breaks new ground and towers above the rest in the sea of generic entertainers. He has been accused being affiliated with the illuminati.

These labels are formed by people who lack the ability to think critically and people who fear anything that is new or foreign to the naked eye. This is art for crying out loud. Creativity should never be discouraged or hindered.

Black Parents Give Birth to White Child

In a baffling turn of events seemingly straight out of an episode of the Twilight Zone - a blonde hair, blue-eyed girl was born to British parents, by way of Nigeria, who have no known history of mixed race ancestry. This birth left genetics experts in a state of mass confusion.

Parents Angela and Ben Ihegboro - who are both dark-skinned as are their other children - named their daughter Nmachi which in Nigerian means "beauty of God." After completing genetic testing researchers confirmed that the child, who has golden hair, is not an albino.

When the child was born the father admitted to questioning whether or not his wife was faithful to him. However, after considering the child's appearance he quickly eliminated the possibility of infidelity. "Of course she is mine. My wife is true to me," he said. "Even if she hadn't been, the baby wouldn't have looked like that!" he told British newspaper The Sun.

Professor Ian Jackson, of the British Medical Research Council's Human Genetics Unit, mentions the four types of albinism and points out that each causes a different amount of coloring of hair, eyes and skin.

"In type 2 cases, which it looks like this girl has, we see creamy skin and yellow or light brown hair, which sometimes darkens with age," he told AOL News. "Albinism is more common in West Africa than the rest of the world."

The Ihegboros are very happy with their child and are not bothered by her appearance at all. "She's beautiful and I love her," Angela said.

In May 2007 in a statement released to the Associated Press Usher confirmed the firing of Patton as his manager - who had managed his career since he was 13.

"I have chosen to take the reins of my career," he told AP. "We have a different view and mind-set. I'm doing it and I'm handling it and very, very happy with it."

The decision came a mere months after his marriage to now ex-wife, Tameka Foster, who was rumored to harbor an intense level of animosity towards Usher's mother.

During VH1's Behind the Music Usher confirms the tension between his mother and Foster. "The relationship between me and Tameka, uh, definitely bothered my mother," he said.

After taking control of his career for a little under a year Usher rehired Patton as his manager in 2008. Though he maintained a close relationship with his mother throughout his life and career, Usher was never very close with his father. Usher told Behind the Music he felt neglected by his father - who died in 2008.

He also discussed his breakup with former TLC member Chili, which ended after Usher's admission of infidelity. Following the end of the relationship he release Confessions his most successful album to date.

Chili admitted that she hated the album and what it stood for. She revealed how humiliating the attention was that the album garnered. "I hated that it was blowing up because people were thinking that this is all about their relationship," she told VH1.

Justin Timberlake Stars in Facebook Movie

Pop superstar and former NYSNC frontman Justin Timberlake is set to star in the upcoming Facebook movie - The Social Network. The David Fincher directed film - Se7en, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - chronicles the behind-the-scenes story of Mark Zuckerberg - the founder of Facebook.

The feature was written by Columbia Pictures and features the tagline: "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies." Kevin Spacey is listed as co-producer of the feature. David Fincher's The Social Network is set for an October 1, 2010 release.

Here comes yet another run-of-the-mill release in theaters. As if we don't hear enough about Facebook as it stands. Prediction: The Social Network earns less at the box office than Facebook has friends.

Donald Glover, NBC's 'Community' star and former writer for television's Emmy-winning series '30 Rock', is a man of many talents and ambitions. The up-and-coming young comedian has had several Comedy Central hour long specials and continues to tour when away from his main gig.

Glover maintains a busy schedule and continually occupies himself with writing movie screenplays, pitching television pilots and his latest project - a hip-hop album.

That's right. A hip-hop album. "I just wanted to rap. I was like, I want an album," Glover told the Los Angeles Times.

The album entitled 'Culdesac' was released for free over the internet under his rap alias, Childish Gambino. Though just released this month, it has already been downloaded over 10,000 times. The album blends hipster-rap sensibilities with surprising and dexterous wordplay.

The beats are contagious and songs consist of Glover aka Childish Gambino's knack for sensitivity and autobiographical lyrics that chronicle his being bullied as a kid, having difficulty landing dates and issues fitting in with his peers.

Glover - an alum of New York's Upright Citizens Brigade comic troupe and winner of the Rising Comedy Star award at Montreal's Just for Laughs festival - began rapping while studying as an undergrad at New York University in 2002. He acquired his rap alias, Childish Gambino, by using an online Wu-Tang Clan name generator widget.

While at NYU, Glover self-produced a series of mixtapes beginning with "The Younger I Get" which was widely disregarded by his peers due to his 'ultra-confessional' lyrics and dorky posturing. His rap video "Bro Rape" has been viewed over 8 million times on YouTube and after releasing 2009's mixtape - "I am Just a Rapper" - Glover's song 'Mystery Team' was accepted into the Sundance Film Festival.

The actor-comedian-writer-rapper is a quadruple threat creative force.

Lil Wayne is Cleaning Up His Act

In a statement to MTV.com, rap star Fat Joe says Lil Wayne is "much funnier" since detoxing while in jail. Weezy has been behind bars for a few months now after being sentenced to a one year sentence by a New York City judge.

Wayne, who is currently serving time at Rikers Island prison facility, keeps in close contact with rap stars and fellow label-mates Nicki Minaj and Drake. He also frequently blogs on his fan website. The Cash Money rapper has also been visited by P. Diddy.

"He's in great spirits. I love Lil Wayne; that's like my little brother," Fat Joe told MTV.com, "He's just the coolest dude on Earth. I tell you one thing, him not being high made me realize how much funnier he is. This guy has jokes. We were up in there for four hours, just telling jokes, dying laughing, falling on the floor"

Lil Wayne is scheduled to serve only 10 months of his one year sentence and if the hip-hop superstar maintains good behavior he could be released as early as November. Upon his release Weezy will finish out his sentence by serving three years of probation.

This entire ordeal could be compared to rap legend Tupac Shakur's one year prison sentence and his subsequent release. However, 2pac released a classic album while in jail, Me Against the World, and then dropped another classic after his release All Eyez On Me.

On Thursday night the media constantly and forcefully bombarded us with news of NBA mega-star LeBron James' decision to publicly announce which team he was signing with.

Furthermore, his announcement was to be part of an hour long ESPN television special about his destination franchise.

Ridiculous? Let's do the math. The rumors involved LeBron potentially signing with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls or Miami Heat. He eventually decided to sign with the Miami Heat.

James, the two-time league MVP, is no doubt one of the premiere players in basketball and one of the best, if not the best, since Michael Jordan - but taking over prime-time television to announce the team you have chosen to sign with is utterly ridiculous.

The 2003 NBA Draft saw LeBron James, the overall No. 1 pick, signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He would remain with that team for seven years becoming a 6-time NBA-Allstar and taking his team to the playoffs every year from 2006 to 2010.

Now part of an ultra-powerful new lineup in Miami involving Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh - 'King James' may finally give the purple and gold a run for their money. Has the end come for Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson and the Los Angeles Lakers?

Ne-Yo 'Beautiful Monster' Video Sneak Peek!

R&B juggernaut Ne-Yo was in Los Angeles earlier this week where he filmed the video for his latest single "Beautiful Monster." He says this video is the first in a visual saga he plans to film for his upcoming album.

'The entire album is based on the story of the love interest and archnemesis associated with the Libra Scale," the singer told MTV News. "Beautiful Monster," the lead single for his latest album, relies heavily on the synthesizer sound and borrows from europop musical influences.

According to Ne-Yo he routinely accepts video treatments from his collaborating directors. This time he created the entire story and creative concept. Each subsequent video will follow to tell a unique story yet maintain a conceptual theme.

"Beautiful Monster" is one piece of a very long and intricate story," Ne-Yo told MTV News. It appears as if he is taking cues from R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" video mini epic. Great idea we will see if he can execute.

2010 BET Awards: Lights, Camera, Action-Packed!

For years many award shows have been fading into obscurity while facing plummeting ratings in the face of lackluster and uninspired performances. This year's BET Award Show is the exception and was phenomenal to say the least. The marquee was filled with big names and huge stars: Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, P. Diddy, Kanye West and Usher to name a few.

The night started with a theatrical and energetic set from Kanye West who performed his latest single "Power" as he towered over the crowd on a mountain set-piece surrounded by lava. Yes Mr. 'Ye can run his mouth a little too much but he confirmed why - yes Mr. West you "can talk your sh*t again."

Next Jada Pinkett Smith presented a glowing and visibly pregnant Alicia Keys with the award for Best Female R&B Artist. Usher followed with a sexy rendition of his smash single "There Goes My Baby." The ladies were definitely melting in their seats.

Nicki Minaj was awarded Best Female Hip-Hop Act and gave a special dedication to Lil Wayne in her acceptance speech. Afterwards, T.I. and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker performed "Yeah Ya Know" in the midst of pyrotechnic flames.

Drake was presented with Best Hip-Hop Artist winning the award over fellow nominee Jay-Z. Alicia Keys entertained the audience with a medley of her hits "No One", "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" and "Unthinkable". She sported a purple dress and pink stiletto heels.

Next B.o.B. & Keisha Cole took the stage and performed his hit single, "Airplanes". Cole wore a tightly fitting red skirt a sleeveless black top. Eminem stormed into an emotional performance of "Not Afraid" which ended with an accompaniment from a choir and a standing ovation from the audience in the packed Shrine Auditorium.

R&B vocalist Monica beautifully delivered "Everything to Me" and presented Alicia Keys and Jay-Z with Best Collaboration for "Empire State of Mind." P. Diddy enlivened the crowd with a up-tempo rendition of "Hello, Good Morning (Remix)" with Dirty Money, T.I. and Nicki Minaj.

The pinnacle of the night came when Jermaine Jackson introduced R&B/Pop star Chris Brown to the stage who then gave an emotional and powerful tribute performance to Michael Jackson. Brown's tribute began with a shadow dance behind a screen and throughout he perfectly nailed some of Jackson's most famous signature moves including "the moonwalk."

He performed the MJ hits "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Do You Remember the Time", "Billie Jean", and finished by breaking down into tears when singing "Man in the Mirror." The performance was heartfelt and may be the most important moment of Brown's career.

Drake performed "Fireworks" and "Over" then was joined by Young Jeezy for their collaboration "Lose My Mind." Winner of Best Male R&B Vocalist Trey Songz performed afterwards and gave a decent performance but missed some of his high notes.

2010 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Prince was treated to a tribute with a video montage narrated by Stevie Wonder. Prince's hand-picked performers included Janelle Monae singing "Let's Go Crazy", Esperanza Spalding performing "If I Was Your Girlfriend", Alicia Keys singing "Adore" and Patti Labelle finishing with an electric cover of "Purple Rain."

Ludacris closed the show with an adrenaline fueled performance of "My Chick Bad" mixed with DJ Khaled’s hit song “All I Do Is Win (Remix).”

Lakers Win Championship: Is Ron Artest a Nutcase?

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics to become 2010 NBA Champions. It was a hard fought game that literally went down to the wire. The Lakers were down big most of the game until the ever-so-determined Kobe Bryant took control scoring crucial baskets.

Mr. Bryant was definitely the driving force behind the win. But what's a team without teamwork? Bryant passed the ball to Ron Artest who hit one of the biggest shots in his career - a three pointer that gave the Lakers the lead in the final minute of the game.

After the Lakers secured the win Artest was interviewed saying he wanted to thank his "psychiatrist" who really helped him "relax a lot." He then began thanking all of his people in the "hood" and finished with promoting his upcoming rap single "Champion."

Pretty random comments Mr. Artest. Seems as if his emotions got the best of him. At least his psychiatrist got a free promotional spot during one of television's biggest sporting events. Congratulations to the 2010 NBA Champion Lakers.

Sorrentino's debut single "The Situation Rap" celebrates the same senseless activities as the popular MTV series - fist pumping, random hookups, clubbing, gym, tan, laundry and yeah, his abdominal "Situation."

Eminem, Usher and Rihanna Rock Staples Center for E3

Video game geeks get a heavy dose of euphoria each year at the Electronic Arts Expo aka E3. On Tuesday Eminem, Rihanna, Usher, N.E.R.D. and David Guetta rocked the Staples Center for an energetic series of performances.

Usher lit up the arena with an electric performance of his smash #1 single "OMG." He also performed "Caught Up" and "Yeah" for the audience of over 160 million watching in attendance and via the web.

Rap superstar Eminem, who was joined by special guest Travis Barker closed the event with performances of "Lose Yourself" and his current hit single "Not Afraid." He premiered an exlusive new single "Wont Back Down" from his upcoming Recovery album which is scheduled for a June 21st release.

Ubisoft announced its plans to release a performance video game based on 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson in collaboration with the Estate of the late singer. The working title is 'Michael Jackson: The Game' and offers an interactive experience where gamers can relive his greatest performances through singing and dancing - in the vain of 'Guitar Hero' and 'Dance Revolution.' The game is scheduled for a December 2010 release.

Clash of the Titans: NBA Finals 2010

Just when you thought the Lakers vs. Celtics rivalry was dead and revisited only in the form of hazy memories of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson from the 80's - the NBA Finals 2008 took you back in time. There you were in 2008 but oddly enough it was the mid '80s again.

Kobe Bryant was in his first NBA Finals minus the big man - Shaq Diesel. Paul Pierce who was, for years, the lone Celtic who fought game in and game out made his first finals appearance as well.

The 2010 NBA Finals marks the twelfth time these two teams have met in the finals. This finals match up is going to go down in the history books as one of the most competitive. Bryant and the Lakers are back for their third straight finals appearance. The Big 4 have returned to regain their championship prowess.

In game 1 the Lakers played hard on both ends of the floor - offensively and defensively. The Celtics didn't seem to have a spark on either end of the court. Lakers prevail due to tough play.

In game 2 the Celtics went into L.A. down 1-0 looking to tie the series. Laker big men Gasol and Bynum combined for an NBA finals record of 14 blocked shots. Celtics guard Ray Allen made eight three pointers setting a finals record. The Celtics edged out the Lakers for a 1-1 series lock up.

In game 3 the series headed to Boston. Kobe Bryant had 25 points by the end of the third quarter. He didn't score for the first 10 minutes of the 4th quarter. Lakers guard Derek Fisher stepped up and attacked the hoop making a handful of crucial shots in the process. The Lakers took a commanding 2-1 series lead in Boston.

In game 4 Paul Pierce had 19 points, Garnett scored 13 points and Ray Allen finished with 12 points after a seven-quarter shooting cold-streak. Kobe Bryant was on fire for the Lakers with 33 points and Paul Gasol had 21 points. Glenn "Big Baby" Davis scored most of his 18 points in the fourth quarter run where the Celtic bench pulled away to take the lead and capture victory.

Game 5 saw the Celtics and Lakers battling down to the wire. Boston's Paul Pierce had 27 points. Kobe Bryant brought his A-game and was on fire with 38 points. Boston had as much as a 13 point lead but it was still a close game due to competitive play from Bryant. Celtics take a 3-2 series lead.

The NBA hasn't seen a rivalry this epic in decades. This incarnation of Lakers vs. Celtics is making a name for itself as one of the most legendary and heated matchups in sports history.

The 2010 Finals' energy and excitement appears to be at a new high compared to recent years. Bloggers are buzzing, the public is talking and the ratings are through the roof.

Will Kobe and the Lakers be able to hold off the Celtics in game 6? Or will the Celtics take home their eighteenth NBA Championship title?

It's About That Time Again: FIFA World Cup 2010!!

It's about that time again everyone. Here we are near the middle of June and the FIFA World Cup has finally arrived! The excitement is buzzing in the air. Can you feel it? This year's World Cup is being held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The boisterous 40-minute opening ceremony kicked off with a five-plane flypast over the stadium. A group of dancers and drummers followed with a performance of Welcome to Africa. Furthermore, and array of popular musicians and entertainers from all over Africa performed as well.

This was the beginning of a very emotional and powerful ceremony following the death of Nelson Mandela's great-granddaughter. She died in a car crash while traveling home from a pre-World Cup event. The Nelson Mandela foundation released a statement saying it would be "inappropriate" for the former South African president to be at the opening ceremony, according to BBC News.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter says this World Cup, the first to be held on African soil, will be "a very special event" where "there is an indescribable anticipation." Some of soccer's most talented athletes will be on display this year. Names like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney light up the marquee. Expect epic competition, blood, sweat and tears.

The former teen actor and "Degrassi" star seems to be the unlikely rapper but with chart topping singles and a slew of top-notch guest performances he's become a huge star. Drake has racked up an impressive collection of #1 hits. "Thank Me Later" keeps the momentum going with excellent production from Kanye West, No ID, Swizz Beats and Timbaland.

Even the lesser known producers offer pleasurable production. Featured guest include Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, T.I. The-Dream and Nikki Minaj - who all offer peak performance over these sparse and atmospheric productions.

The album opens with the Alicia Keys assisted "Fireworks" a powerful ode to wide-eyed dreams and visions of lasting success. The track brims with passion and enthusiasm but maintains a hint of melancholy. "The Resistance" follows finding a reflective Drake lamenting about the trappings of new found fame while gracefully riding out the beautiful highs and lows of the dreamy production. The first single "Over" is a definite stand out track. On "Light Up" Jay-Z and Drake trade off dexterous verses in the form of a conversation between mentor and protege.

Drake's "Thank Me Later" possesses a melodic and uptempo enthusiasm while balancing moments of sincerity and sensitivity. It recalls the late '80s hip hop glory of De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest and has just as much heart. It would be easy to write him off as a novelty artist but on his debut album Drake does not disappoint. Is this the anthem for Summer 2010? It just may be.
